SHORT TAKES : Gardner’s Belongings for Sale

LONDON — The contents of Ava Gardner’s London apartment where she lived as a recluse until her death last January--including about 75 pairs of shoes--will be auctioned off next week.
Sotheby’s auction house said today that it expects to raise about $1.2 million from the sale.
The Hollywood star lived in London for 17 years. The apartment’s contents reveal her liking for Oriental antiques and wall hangings as well an her extravagant taste in shoes.
