LANSDALE, Pa. — Joseph Cicippio Jr., son of an American held hostage in Lebanon, died Sunday of a heart attack at age 35, hospital officials said today.
Cicippio was taken to North Penn Hospital early Sunday morning, a nursing supervisor said. He was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m.
Family members refused to talk to reporters today and funeral arrangements were incomplete.
Joseph Cicippio Sr. was taken hostage in Beirut on Sept. 12, 1986. His son became the third member of his family to die since he was taken into captivity. A sister, Rose Abell, 73, died of cancer months after his kidnaping. Abell’s husband, Bill, 80, died last year of a heart attack.
