ABC Show Angers Detroit Council: The Race Relations Council of Metropolitan Detroit blasted ABC’s “PrimeTime Live” for the report on Detroit it broadcast last Thursday. The council, made up of church, community and corporate leaders and members of academia, has demanded that ABC allow it equal time to air its view. In a letter to the network, the organization said that the segment featured “stereotypical images of a violent, drug-infested and heavily-armed black population wildly burning down a city while a grotesquely portrayed chief administrator defends himself. . . . The choice of airing this piece at a time of strained national racial tensions and civil rights set-backs is, we believe, the height of journalistic irresponsibility.” ABC has not yet responded to the council’s request, which was issued on Friday.
