USIU Victory Caps Best Division I Season
The U.S. International women’s soccer team completed its fourth and best season Wednesday as an NCAA Division I member with an impressive 3-0 victory over UC Irvine.
Junior Nicki Roache set a school record with her 10th goal of the season for USIU (7-9-1). Seniors Lisa Klapka and Kelly Pietila had the other goals. Jennifer Womack assisted on all three goals. UC Irvine fell to 6-12-2.
WATER POLO
Kevin Vance scored six goals to lead UC San Diego to a 15-6 victory over visiting UC Riverside. The Tritons improved to 7-20, UC Riverside fell to 18-14.
GOLF
Kristyl Sunderman and Chris Riley were named for the second time the county’s top girls’ and boys’ junior golfers in 1990 by the San Diego County Junior Golf Assn.
Sunderman, 17, of La Quinta, won for the second year in a row. Riley, 16, of San Diego, had won the award in 1988. They, along with age-group winners Jessica Stiles, Liza Pompa, Gail Fernandez, Patrick Perez, Carlos Perez and Luis Assemat, will be honored at a banquet at the Stardust Country Club at 7 p.m. Nov. 9.
