Travelers Corp.: The multi-line insurer posted a third-quarter loss of $499.3 million, contrasted with a profit of $94.2 million a year ago. The Hartford, Conn., firm attributed the results to a previously disclosed $650-million charge that it took for reserves for possible losses in real estate and mortgage loans. Premiums totaled $1.8 billion, down 5%.
