Santa Clara 14, Bell-Jeff 6--Sophomore running back Lloyd Mix rushed for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to give Santa Clara (1-3) a come-from-behind nonleague victory at Burroughs High. Mix broke a 6-6 tie with a seven-yard scoring run with a little more than two minutes remaining.
Mix, who rushed for 72 yards in 12 carries, ran 42 yards for a score and also had a 72-yard scoring run nullified by a holding penalty.
Bell-Jeff (0-4) jumped ahead, 6-0, on Alfred Silva’s one-yard run in the third quarter. Silva had 83 yards in 18 carries. Santa Clara’s Scottie Tripp led all rushers with 87 yards in 14 attempts.
Bell-Jeff quarterback Anthony Pawluc completed six of 16 passes for 81 yards--including a 63-yard strike to Mike Dunn that set up Silva’s scoring run--but threw four interceptions.
