First Lutheran 22, L.A. Lutheran 18--Senior quarterback Paul Stark completed three of five passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead First Lutheran in a Heritage League game at L. A. Baptist.
Stark threw scoring passes of 52 and 75 yards in the second quarter to give First Lutheran (4-0, 2-0 in league play) a 14-12 lead. Stark’s scoring strikes were to Rob Arndt and Mark Cortez, respectively.
Matt McGraw returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to bring L. A. Lutheran (2-2, 2-1) within 14-12 at halftime.
