World IN BRIEF : POLAND : Anti-Abortion Bill Altered in Protests

Poland’s Senate approved a draft law tightening restrictions on abortions but threw out a clause that would have sent women to prison for having one. The Senate modified the law after women campaigning for the right to have abortions scuffled in Parliament with the bill’s sponsor. Several thousand other protesters demonstrated outside. The bill awaits approval by the lower house.
