Representatives of the NBA Players Assn. formally ratified an amendment to the collective bargaining agreement that might limit free agency by reducing the salary cap.
The group approved the plan by a 26-1 vote. The plan gives pensions to retired players until age 50, when regular pensions become available.
The money contributed will count against the players’ guaranteed 53% of gross revenues. As a result, the salary cap will be reduced from $13.506 million per team to $11.781 million, or about 13%.
