LOCAL : Divers Resume Castaic Search
Teams of divers resumed their search this morning for a Bell Gardens man presumed drowned in Castaic Lake.
The 37-year-old man, whose name was not released, jumped from a rented rowboat into the water about 5 p.m. Sunday, said Fred Elam, senior lake lifeguard at Castaic Lake, about 10 miles north of Santa Clarita. The man apparently had consumed several beers, he said.
Sheriff’s officials said the man had been seen jumping in the water earlier Sunday afternoon and was warned of the danger.
Divers from the county-operated lake and from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department discontinued their search at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Elam said.
The search resumed at 7 a.m. today with a flight over the lake by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter, Elam said. Sixteen divers, working in teams of two, resumed the underwater search at 9:30 a.m.
