ROUNDUP : Bowen Carries Thousand Oaks to 20-12 Victory Over San Marcos
It took Cory Bowen only one carry to give Thousand Oaks High a lead it never relinquished Friday night in a 20-12 victory over host San Marcos. The game was the season opener for both teams.
Bowen, who rushed for 105 yards in 16 carries, scored on a 18-yard sweep in the first quarter. He also scored on a fumble recovery in the second quarter when teammate David Acosta dropped the ball going over the goal line.
Acosta preserved the victory with two key defensive plays late in the fourth quarter. He recovered a fumble on the Lancers’ two-yard line with 4:50 remaining and intercepted a pass on the San Marcos 18-yard line to end the Royals’ final possession.
Thousand Oaks quarterback Scott Peterson completed seven of 21 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 51 yards in seven carries. Receiver Jeff Watts caught five passes for 68 yards. He had a nine-yard catch for a touchdown in the second quarter.
