NAMES IN THE NEWS : Church Revels in Wonderment
HACKENSACK, N.J. — Parishioners at a Baptist church here got a surprise Sunday when Stevie Wonder showed up and sang a soulful rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer.”
“No one knew he was coming,” said Vernelle Hunt, a parishioner at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. “The youth choir was having a fit.” Wonder was attending the church service with parishioner Kim Brewer, one of his backup singers, who was in Hackensack for a family reunion. Wonder owns a home in nearby Alpine and often travels to New Jersey to visit his children.
