Amoco Plans Expansion: Amoco Chemical Co. plans to spend $200 million to expand its ethylene production plant near Alvin, Tex. The expansion, scheduled to be complete by early 1994, will add 50 employees to Amoco’s Chocolate Bayou plant and will boost the company’s ethylene production by 600 million pounds annually. The plant already produces 2.4 billion pounds of ethylene and 800 million pounds of propylene annually. Ethylene and propylene are key petrochemical building blocks used to make plastics, industrial chemicals and various consumer products.
