ORANGE — A 48-year-old man was killed Thursday when a pickup truck struck him from behind as he walked along Katella Avenue, police said.
James William Marcotte of Orange was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center shortly after the incident, which occurred at about 2:40 p.m., Orange Police Lt. Art Romo said.
The driver of the 1989 Dodge pickup, Carlos Dwayne King, 30, of West Covina, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and later booked into Orange County Jail, Romo said.
“There were indications that he (King) had been drinking,” Romo said. Results of lab tests on King’s blood-alcohol level were not immediately available.
Marcotte had been walking east along the curb in the 1700 block of West Katella Avenue when he was struck from behind by the eastbound pickup, Romo said.
