WORLD IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : U.S. Radio Station Gets Planners’ OK

An Israeli planning board approved construction of a controversial $300-million Voice of America radio-relay station. However, opponents vowed to take their case to their nation’s high court. The 19-6 decision by the National Council for Building and Planning overturned a previous decision to wait for the results of a study on the station’s possible effect on migratory birds. The decision must be approved by the Israeli Cabinet before implementation.
