Basketball Tournaments to Open at Servite Today, Mater Dei Friday
Servite and Mater Dei high schools will play host to summer basketball tournaments this weekend.
At Servite, 16 teams are entered, including defending tournament champion Long Beach Poly. In today’s first-round games, Pomona will play St. Anthony at 3:30 p.m., Loara will play Long Beach Poly at 5, Lakewood will play Woodbridge at 6:30 and St. Monica will meet Western at 8.
In Friday’s first-round games, Servite will play Millikan at 9 a.m., Marina will play Rolling Hills at 10:30 a.m., Huntington Beach will play Dominguez at noon and Los Alamitos will play San Pasqual at 1:30.
The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday.
Defending state champions Mater Dei, Artesia and Santa Clara will be among the eight teams competing in the Mater Dei tournament.
Santa Clara and Ocean View will play in the first game of the double-elimination tournament Friday at 1:30 p.m. Artesia will play Capistrano Valley at 3 p.m., followed by Foothill vs. Los Alamitos at 4:30 and Mater Dei vs. Fullerton at 7:30.
The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.
