City officials in Lakewood and Artesia have raised residential trash collection fees.
The Lakewood City Council passed a garbage collection rate hike Tuesday increasing fees for those residents with once-a-week collection from $7.97 per month to $8.49. Those residents whose garbage is collected twice a week will pay $10.64, up from $9.98.
Trash rates for Artesia residents also will increase by as much as $1.88 monthly. Rates for a single-family residence will increase from $6.96 to $8.64. Rates for mobile home residents will go from $6.96 to $7.92.
The Artesia City Council recently approved a 10.2% rate increase for Consolidated Disposal Service Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, which hauls the city’s trash.
The Artesia council, which has subsidized residential refuse collection in the past, voted to stop the subsidy and pass the increase on to residents. The city had been paying $43,000 a year for the subsidy.
