Temple City : Garages Can Offer Towing

Gas stations and garages in areas zoned for commercial uses may provide towing services, the City Council decided last week.

Previously, towing businesses were allowed only in areas zoned for manufacturing. The new measure was approved on a 3-1 vote, with Councilman Patrick Froehle opposed.

Most of the audience members who spoke about the measure were in favor of it, but some people felt towing services were inappropriate in the downtown area.

Froehle said that, because towed vehicles are disabled, they likely would end up being stored for long terms at garages. He said such services should continue to be limited to manufacturing areas.
