CBS Inc.: The third-place television network reported that second-quarter earnings from continuing operations rose 16% to $138 million on 7% higher revenue of $828.8 million. CBS attributed the increased earnings to the absence of writers strike-related costs incurred in the year-ago quarter and additional revenue generated from expanded National Basketball Assn. playoff and championship games.
