Federal Jury Acquits Imelda Marcos
The acquittal of Mrs. Marcos from four counts of bank fraud and racketeering charges under the criminal RICO federal statute was limited only to her participation in the purchase of four buildings in New York.
It does not absolve her from the systematic and callous plunder of the Philippine treasury.
In fact, the civil RICO racketeering suit is still pending with U.S. District Courts here in Los Angeles, New York and Switzerland for the recovery of ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses.
The decision of the Philippine Supreme Court prohibiting the return of the Marcoses still stands. It is not affected by the acquittal of Mrs. Marcos.
