Should Ripken Sit in Respect to Gehrig?

Cal Ripken Jr., now second on the consecutive games played list, should sit out and end his streak, not for the fans and for his team, but for Lou Gehrig. In five years, Ripken will reach Gehrig’s “impossible” record, but will it mean as much if he hits .240 along the way? We remember Everett Scott, Steve Garvey and Billy Williams for their playing abilities, not their streaks, and I hope we can remember Cal Ripken Jr. the same way.
