FILLMORE : Pool Hall Law Bans Tobacco, Alcohol

The Fillmore City Council has voted to update a 1931 ordinance governing pool halls.
The new regulations will prohibit the sale of tobacco and alcohol in pool halls, but place no age restrictions on patrons of a new pool hall proposed on Central Avenue.
The council approved a conditional use permit last month to allow the new business to operate, despite opposition by neighboring merchants who felt that a pool hall would attract an undesirable and potentially destructive element to Fillmore’s newly refurbished downtown. Fillmore’s last pool hall closed five years ago after 60 years of operation.
Remodeling is under way at 324 Central Ave., which recently housed a shoe store. But owners Gabriel Asenas and Christina Delaney have not announced an opening date for the pool hall.
