Veteran of Broadway ‘Oklahoma!’ Back on Stage

Retired Broadway veteran Alicia Krug Freedman, now living in Oceanside, danced the part of Laurey in “Oklahoma!” for 1,128 performances on Broadway.
Now she is coming out of retirement to play Laurey’s Aunt Eller in the Carlsbad Community Cultural Arts Center production, under the direction of Frank Wayne, artistic director of the Lawrence Welk Resort Theatre.
The show opens tonight and runs through July 29 at 3557 Monroe St. While Wayne is in Carlsbad, Mark Stevens directs “The Sound of Music” at the Lawrence Welk, running through Sept. 8. Alice McMasters, a headliner in the Old Globe’s “White Linen” and Starlight Musical Theatre’s “Showboat” will star as Maria von Trapp.
