The Immigration and Naturalization Service said Friday that it has fined the president of a garment manufacturing firm $38,000 for hiring undocumented workers.
The amount of the fine against Dae Sug Young of Day Young International Inc. is a record in the Los Angeles district, the INS said.
Young was indicted by a federal grand jury in May for making a false statement to a government agent. The indictment alleged that Young said he had dismissed 22 undocumented workers, but a subsequent investigation showed that all 22 were still working at the company.
Young faces a federal court hearing on the false statement charge July 31.
