Principal Who Changed Grades Gets Transfer

A Pomona high school principal who admitted changing report card grades for two students, one of whose mother sits on the school board, was transferred this week to an administrative job overseeing the district’s dropout and drug prevention program.
The Pomona Unified School Board said that Tony Lopes, principal of Ganesha High School, requested the transfer. Lopes was criticized by parents and teachers after he raised final, fall semester grades for two students without notifying the teachers involved.
Lopes changed the grades back after the incidents came to light and attributed his actions to poor judgment. In his new job, Lopes will continue receiving his annual salary of $68,639.
