James Ivory’s exquisite 1979 film of the Henry James novel is like seeing a series of ancestral portraits come alive. Lee Remick (pictured) stars as a German baroness by a disintegrating marriage, an adventuress worthier than she seems, who descends upon her very proper New England relatives on a desperate husband-hunting mission.
