Car on Wrong Side of I-5 Kills Marine
A U.S. Marine corps captain was killed early Saturday when a wrong-way vehicle collided with his car in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5.
A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said that felony drunken-driving charges would be filed against Juan Iniguez, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle. Iniguez was listed in stable condition at UC San Diego Medical Center.
The dead man, Steven E. Scull, 35, was a captain at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, said a spokesman for the county Medical Examiner’s office.
The accident occurred at 12:18 a.m., in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of the Interstate 8 overpass.
The CHP was investigating the incident.
