BEETHOVEN: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2. London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wyn Morris. MCA Classics MCAD-25888 (compact disc). The pallor of routine hangs over the proceedings. Execution is solid, not sparkling, and Morris’s interpretations are fleet, with a cursory regard for detail and phrasing. Woodwinds lack crisp presence and the murky acoustic of the production doesn’t help. Ho hum--just another safe and sane Beethoven symphony recording in a very crowded field.
