Cayster Wins N.J. Sires Stakes
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Cayster sat well back of the pace before moving out at the three-quarter mark Tuesday to win the $100,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes Championship for 3-year-old trotting fillies at the Meadowlands.
Driven by Bill O’Donnell, Cayster battled Miss Baltic down the stretch, squeezed out a small lead and maintained it to the wire to win by a neck in 1:57 1/5.
The winner paid $4.80, $3 and $2.40; Miss Baltic paid $3.20 and $2.80, and Hi Po Monami paid $3.20.
Iceycindy registered her third consecutive victory in the $23,000 Enfilade Purse at Maryland’s Laurel Race Course on Tuesday.
The granddaughter of Northern Dancer led all the way in her first race around the two turns at a mile and one-sixteenth and was timed in 1:45 2/5 with jockey Edgar Prado.
Moolicop finished one length back in second, and Miss Rusty was another five lengths back in third.
Iceycindy paid $4.40, $3 and $2.80 as the favorite in a field of eight fillies and mares.
