WORLD IN BRIEF : THAILAND : Premier Asks U.S. to Aid Transformation

Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhavan urged the United States to join Thailand in transforming his region from an East-West battlefield into a marketplace. In an address to the National Press Club in Washington, Chatichai said a new order is shaping up in Southeast Asia, bridging the gap between six non-Communist nations and Communist-ruled Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Chatichai urged U.S. businesses to step up investment in such areas as petroleum, petrochemicals, electronics, telecommunications and environmental management.
