WORLD IN BRIEF : IRELAND : IRA Claims Blame in Wave of Blasts

The Irish Republican Army admitted responsibility for bomb blasts in Britain and West Germany this week. The IRA said in Dublin that it blew up both the British home of Lord McAlpine, an adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and a British army training center in the northern West German town Hamelin. The blast in Hamelin caused extensive damage but no one was injured. Earlier a bomb badly damaged West Green House, an 18th-Century mansion in southern England, which McAlpine left three weeks ago when his lease expired.
