Herrera, Dameworth Shine in Golden West Invitational
Bryan Dameworth of Agoura High set a personal best to place third in the mile and Eliazar Herrera of Hoover won the 3,000 meters at the Golden West Invitational high school track and field meet at Cal State Sacramento on Saturday.
Dameworth, who defeated Herrera for the state 3,200-meter title at Cerritos College last week, ran 4 minutes 9.32 seconds to finish behind Andy Maris (4:08.05) of Buckley, Wash., and Michael Going (4:09.19) of Old Westbury, N. Y.
Brian Gastelum of Birmingham, ninth in the 1,600 at the state meet, finished eighth in 4:24.38.
Herrera timed 8:27.9 to win the 3,000, ahead of Brandon Rhoads (8:28.5) of Provo, Utah, and Obed Aguirre (8:31.1) of San Fernando.
