Police Car Broadsides Another Vehicle While Responding to Robbery Alarm

A Costa Mesa police officer who was responding to a robbery alarm broadsided another vehicle Saturday morning at the intersection of Bear Street and South Coast Drive, authorities said.

Officer Bob Eger was en route to answer the alarm when he ran a red light and hit a car driven by Helen Louise Ramsland, 71, of Costa Mesa, said Lt. Tom Warnack of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Warnack said it was not immediately known whether Eger had his lights and siren on. Ramsland was traveling westbound on South Coast Drive shortly before 11:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
