Oceanside
An Oceanside man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a Vista man who was shot to death May 31. Amos J. Johnson, 31, of the 200 block of Country Club Lane, was arrested at his home late Wednesday and is being held without bail at the County Jail in Vista.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Johnson in connection with the killing of Alexander Bazan, 25, of the 400 block of Sunrise Drive East. Bazan died of a single gunshot wound, Lt. John Tenwolde said.
Tenwolde said Bazan was sitting in his car in a Vista restaurant parking lot at Sycamore Drive and California 78 when the shooting occurred shortly after midnight. Tenwolde said witnesses saw Johnson standing at Bazan’s open car door on the driver’s side.
The two men were engaged in a struggle when Johnson pulled a handgun and shot Bazan in the chest, Tenwolde said. Bazan died at Palomar Medical Center about 90 minutes after the shooting.
