CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN DIEGO : Jail Upheld for Anti-Abortionist
- Share via
Anti-abortion lawyer Cyrus Zal, slapped with a 90-day jail term by a judge, was ordered to report to jail by a San Diego appeals court that found the sentence justified. Zal had appealed the sentence stemming from a contempt of court citation El Cajon Municipal Court Judge Larrie R. Brainard imposed at a February trial. But the 4th District Court of Appeal rejected the appeal and ordered the Folsom-based lawyer to report to the San Diego County jail on June 15. Zal was cited for repeatedly ignoring Brainard’s order not to discuss abortion at last winter’s trial, in which the lawyer represented six anti-abortion advocates convicted of trespass after a protest last Oct. 21 in La Mesa.
