Developer Plans Revival for Marina Pacifica Mall

A Los Angeles developer plans to buy and redesign the bankrupt Marina Pacifica Mall in Long Beach.
Triple Five Joshi Devco, a partner of the Triple Five conglomerate that built one of the world’s biggest shopping malls in Edmonton, Canada, expects to close the sale in August, a company official said this week.
The 14-year-old mall is one of the few failures of shopping center pioneer Ernest W. Hahn, and has become known in the trade for its complicated design of dank corridors, hidden staircases and a maze of walkways that made shops difficult to find, experts said.
If the sale goes through, the company plans to raze parts of the mall and take advantage of its location on the Long Beach Marina. The entire project could cost up to $50 million, developer Rohit Joshi said.
