Pitcher Ann Van Dortrecht and third baseman Joy Tiner of Cal State Fullerton have been named to the second team of the NCAA All-American softball team.
Two former Orange County high school standouts were selected to the first team, as chosen in a vote of NCAA Division I coaches. California’s Michele Granger, a pitcher from Valencia High School, and Fresno State’s Martha Noffsinger, a shortstop from Edison, were chosen.
Julie Smith, a second baseman from Fresno State, was the only other Big West Conference player on the first team. Catcher Shelly Stokes and Pitcher Carie Dever from Fresno State; pitcher Mary Letourneau from Cal State Long Beach and second baseman Trish Reimche from Nevada Las Vegas made the second team.
Gina LoPiccolo, a utility player from Fresno State who played at Sunny Hills High School, was a third-team selection.
