Favored Harbor Plays Santa Rosa in State Baseball
Harbor College will try for its third state baseball title this weekend in the California State Championship Tournament at UC Irvine.
The double-elimination tournament will feature the two Northern Regional and Southern Regional winners.
The top-ranked Seahawks (48-5) will open against Santa Rosa, the third-seeded team from Northern California, Saturday at 3 p.m.
Chabot College of Hayward and Riverside will play at 11 a.m. Saturday. Chabot is the top-seeded team from the North and Riverside is the 11th-seeded team from the South. The winners of Saturday’s games will play Sunday at 11 a.m. The losers will play at Golden West College at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The winner of the loser’s bracket will then play the loser of the winner’s bracket at 3 p.m. Sunday. The final is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday.
Harbor, which won the title in 1978 and 1984, looks like the top contender to win it this year. The Seahawks, making their eighth appearance in the state tournament, haven’t lost a playoff game.
They swept Miracosta in the first round of the regionals and defeated Rio Hondo and Golden West twice in last week’s regional final at Cerritos College.
Last season, Harbor finished third at the state tournament in Sacramento. Cerritos College won the title and Sacramento City College placed second.
