Teams from schools in Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley compete today in a test of knowledge of the Pacific Rim, with winners receiving a seven-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Hong Kong.
Teams from Valley View Junior High School in Simi Valley, Reed Junior High School in North Hollywood and Heschel Day School in Northridge are among 10 Southern California schools selected to compete in the Ambassadors to Asia competition sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways and The Times.
More than 1,900 ninth- and 10th-grade students submitted essays to enter the contest.
The 10 teams selected for the final competition will be quizzed on history, geography, economics and the culture of Pacific Rim countries. The top five teams will win the Hong Kong trip.
