Following the lead of the Laguna Beach City Council, trustees of the Laguna Art Museum voted Tuesday to take an official stance in support of the embattled National Endowment for the Arts and will send copies of its resolution to local congressmen, state senators and President Bush. The resolution voices support for “continued and increased federal funding” of the NEA “without government restrictions on free artistic expression.” Several conservative politicians have objected to NEA funding of allegedly obscene or sacrilegious artworks, while Rep. Dana Rohrabacher--a Republican whose district includes parts of Orange County--has called for elimination of the NEA from the federal budget.
