UCLA Men’s Crew Leads Qualifying

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. —  UCLA posted the fastest qualifying time Saturday during the windy and overcast first day of the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma.

With winds up to 20 m.p.h., the fourth-seeded Bruins negotiated the 2,000-meter course in 6:21.4 in the first heat, with top-seeded Washington placing second with a 6:21.6 clocking and winning the third and final heat of the men’s varsity eight division.

Second-seeded Stanford won the second heat in 6:24.3. California, UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis also qualified for the men’s final.

Top-seeded UCLA had the best women’s time, winning the second varsity eight heat in 7:10.7. Stanford won the first heat in 7:13.4. California, Washington, Washington State and UC Davis also advance to the women’s final.
