Absent Cook Blamed for Residence Fires

An estimated 60,600 residential ires occur annually when food ignites on the kitchen range and no one is there to shut off the stove, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Deaths associated with these fires total about 120 a year, according to the commission.

If you cannot stay in the kitchen, you should check the range often to make sure that food or cooking materials don’t catch fire.
