NEWPORT BEACH : 3 Council Members to Seek Reelection
- Share via
Three members of the Newport Beach City Council have announced their intention to run for reelection in November.
Council members Clarence J. Turner, Donald A. Strauss and Phil Sansone all said they would seek another term. Strauss will be trying for his fourth term, while Turner and Sansone will be trying for their second.
The announcements coincide with a petition drive to limit council members to two consecutive terms, or eight years. There are currently six cities in the county with the eight-year limit, said Janine Gault, a spokeswoman for the Newport Residents to Limit City Council Terms, which is sponsoring the petition.
The group has until July 1 to gather signatures of 15% of the 43,322 registered voters in the city to qualify the measure for the November ballot.
