Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Treaty Oak Poisoning

AUSTIN, Tex. — A man convicted of poisoning Texas’ historic Treaty Oak tree was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined $1,000 by a jury Thursday.
Paul Stedman Cullen, 46, was convicted of poisoning the tree in what authorities said was an occult ritual. Because he was previously convicted of a felony--burglary--he had faced a maximum sentence of 99 years or life in prison.
