Two judges took action Thursday against actor Kelsey Grammer, who plays psychiatrist Frasier Crane on the “Cheers” TV show, in two cases involving failure to enroll in substance-abuse programs.
Grammer surrendered to Van Nuys Municipal Judge Aviva K. Bobb, who had issued an arrest warrant last week after Grammer failed to appear in court to prove he had completed a drug rehabilitation program after an arrest for cocaine possession.
Grammer’s attorney, Robert L. Diamond, requested that Grammer be given another chance to take part in the program. But Bobb ordered Grammer arrested, set bail at $7,500 and scheduled a May 21 hearing on the cocaine charge.
Grammer was then taken before Judge Patricia Gorner Schwartz on a warrant issued Feb. 6 after he failed to complete an alcohol rehabilitation program imposed after he pleaded no contest to a 1987 drunk-driving charge. The judge scheduled a hearing for May 16 and set bail of $10,000.
Grammer posted bail on both charges.
