Open Reviews to All
I must say, the Newport-Mesa school board is a clever bunch. They recently mailed out an announcement for a new curriculum program with a creative twist. They are actually offering parents a preview of a new social science and history curriculum before commencing to teach it.
It seems the district learned a lesson when it adopted the sex-education curricula. Embarrassed by the emphasis on deviant sex practices and what amounted to pornographic films, administrators have learned to shield what is being taught from the parents and taxpayers of this district. Perhaps this is why only one meeting is being proposed, the meeting is scheduled when no working parent can attend, and the “delegates” are limited to two for a large school, and one for a small school, and carefully chosen so that no non-supportive delegates can attend.
If they’re really interested in the input from parents, why not open the review to all interested parents? Why not provide several weeknights instead of one session for a few hours?
