COMMUNITY COLLEGE TENNIS : OCC’s Garcia Wins Twice to Advance

Gina Garcia of Orange Coast, the top-seeded singles player, won twice to advance to the semifinals of the Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis championships Friday at Cypress.
Garcia won, 6-0, 6-0, in the third round and 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and will play Cyndi Laird of Golden West at 9 a.m.
Second-seeded Noelle Schmidt of Saddleback plays No. 3 Iliana Adane of OCC in the other semifinal, also at 9 a.m.
In the men’s tournament at Fullerton:
Top-seeded John Swaino of Cypress will play No. 4 Ilkyung Choi OCC and No. 2 Andy Stewart will play No. 5 Brian Giffin of Riverside in the semifinals at 9 a.m. The championship is at 11:30 a.m.
The No. 1 doubles team of Carl Hinds and Stan Sanders (Saddleback) plays No. 3 Robert Carleton and Swaino of Cypress at 1 p.m.
