Silberman Accused of Violating Gag Order

SAN DIEGO — A federal prosecutor has accused Richard T. Silberman of violating a gag order barring participants in his money-laundering case from making characterizations about witnesses.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Charles F. Gorder Jr. said Wednesday that Silberman should be punished for the alleged infraction.
Gorder said Silberman violated the March 1 court order by granting an interview with NBC News in which the businessman said the government used a “scary, frightening” informant who made threats against his family.
He suggested that Silberman’s $500,000 surety bond be revoked, but U.S. District Judge J. Lawrence Irving, who is presiding over the case, ruled out that option.
Irving said he would investigate the charges and take “appropriate action.” However, he said he was not inclined to put Silberman in jail.
