Former Paramount Executives Indicted: Two former Paramount Pictures executives, Gordon Weaver and Stephen Rose, were indicted by a federal grand jury in New York on charges of conspiring to evade federal income taxes and filing false income tax returns in 1983 and 1984. The indictment alleges that they received kickbacks, including the free use of a summer home for Weaver and a Mercedes-Benz automobile for Rose, from contractors and vendors seeking to do business with Paramount. The indictment also charges that Weaver extorted kickbacks from companies by threatening to withhold business from them. Weaver was president of the Paramount motion picture unit’s worldwide marketing division. Rose was his vice president. Weaver denied the allegations against him. Rose was not immediately available for comment.
