Procter & Gamble Co.: The consumer products firm said third-quarter net income rose 30% to $404 million, while sales climbed 13% to $6.123 billion. The earnings increase was due primarily to greater unit volume and, to a lesser extent, a lower effective tax rate, Cincinnati-based P&G; said.
